About

Steve Basar was first elected to the Shelby County Board of Commissioners in August 2012 and served on the legislative body until September 2018.  During his six years of service, Steve focused his efforts on improving public safety, economic development and reducing the tax rate.

Steve is running for Trustee because he understands the importance of public service and has a passion to serve Shelby County.  After a successful business career, Steve wants to ensure Shelby County has the best people working in the Trustee’s office and that the Trustee provides accurate revenue forecasts as well as managing cash flow.  Shelby County currently has AA+ credit rating and the Trustee has a key responsibility in managing fund balance.

Steve has over 20 years of experience in various planning, forecasting, and supply chain roles. He holds an MBA from the University of Illinois at Chicago with concentrations in Marketing, Finance, and International Business. He is a certified six sigma black belt and has extensive experience managing people.

As County Commissioner Steve served as budget and finance chair and was also a member of several boards including the Shelby Farms Park Conservancy, the Convention and Visitor Bureau, the Downtown Memphis Commission, and the Economic Development Growth Engine (EDGE).

The Trustee is an important position.  Steve is qualified, understands county finance, and has the business acumen and leadership skills to keep Shelby County on firm financial footing.
